C2E2 Field Report: A Mistborn, a Mer-matee, and B’Barbra’s Budgetary Relief

Apr 11, 2025

Filed for public dissemination and approved by the Silverlight Bureau of Perpendicularity Regulation and Inter-Realmatic Transport, stationed at Temporary Outpost 𝘊2𝘌2-β519. Confidentiality waived. B’Barbra insists the people deserve to know.

Day One of C2E2 is well underway, and if you listen carefully, you can hear it humming.

Yeah. That’s the sound of a packed Dragonsteel booth! We've had fans quoting epigraphs from The Hero of Ages, debating whether Hoid's narrative evasiveness is charming or infuriating (answer: yes), and asking earnestly whether it’s socially acceptable to cry in public over a single sentence in Tress (answer: absolutely, and if it’s that bit about... ah... reciprocation... I understand as it utterly destroyed me).

The Booth Team Is In Position

Our Dragonsteel crew is here and ready to talk shop with all of you. You want to discuss the deeper implications of anti-Investiture? Great. You’re curious about which Radiant order you’d be sorted into? Let’s chat. You’ve got a theory about a certain talking sword and an ancient dragon currently playing word games across realms? Pull up a chair. Our team is always ready, whether you want a signed leatherbound or just someone to nod solemnly while you whisper, “I think Rock is a Dawnshard.”

Each team member is technically a bookseller. But unofficially? They’re archivists. Sparring partners. Lore librarians. Meeting you is the highlight of our days. Come chat with us! If you're out and about on the exhibitor floor, you may run into the publicity and marketing team! We're asking all kinds of fun questions for social media. If you see us in our Dragonsteel t-shirts, let us know and we might ask you to be in a TikTok.

New Releases and Fiscal Optimism

The new merch has landed, and may I just say, it is turning heads. As it should, honestly. It's gorgeous. I'm a fan of the new Tress Sandershelf pin set myself, and the Silverlight Bureau Travel Tees are proving popular.

“This is… highly encouraging,” said B’Barbra, watching the crowds with a glint of revenue-driven hope in her eyes. “If we can maintain this pace, I may finally convince Phyl to lift the embargo on interdimensional postage. That would be huge for morale.”

Certified Worldhoppers, Pins, and Bureau Business

Of course, no visit to the Dragonsteel booth is complete without taking the Bureau’s official Inter-Realmatic Travel Certification Quest. Eight tasks. Endless possibilities. Mild bureaucracy. At the end of it all, fans receive a C2E2-exclusive Worldhopper pin and—most importantly—a sense of smug accomplishment that is entirely justified.

But today, dear reader, something extra-special happened.

Vin's Quest: An Eight Step Epic

It began innocently enough, I swear. A routine stroll through the bookstore booths. Myself, Adam (Dragonsteel’s vice president of marketing and publicity), and Octavia (our social media coordinator and professional chaos-conduit) were mid-discussion about content planning, books we were reading, whatnot.

That’s when the idea struck: what if we followed a fan through the entire Bureau quest?

Adam added, “It’d be even better if they were in Cosmere cosplay.”

And then the mists parted, and Vin appeared.

Dragonsteel Books

This Vin was so strikingly similar in spirit to the real thing that she may well have stepped straight out of Kredik Shaw, cloak, coins, and all.

Reader, I'm not above peer pressure. That is to say, we did peer pressure her into participating, so you have my confession. Her friends cheered her on, though, so it was fine. One even helped craft the costume! We had a very creative group for this quest.

Vin tackled eight Bureau tasks like a true Mistborn on a mission. She met an artist (and chose, with impeccable taste, one who illustrated a manatee cosplaying as a mermaid—truly, the finest of hybridized aquatic fan art). She posed with a cosplayer from an entirely different universe (I'm sorry, I have no idea which universe, but he was wearing a pointy red hat and the photo is down below... if you know the answer, leave a comment lol). She ducked into a panel for approximately 15 seconds (Phyl is currently filing a strongly worded footnote but I think we can probably just ignore it).

Eventually, Vin returned to the Dragonsteel booth and was officially certified by none other than B’Barbra herself, who bestowed upon her the honored C2E2 worldhopper pin and a solemn nod.

As a reward for letting us follow her around, we took Vin on a little shopping spree and invited her to choose a signed leatherbound of her choice. With commendable pragmatism (and a likely awareness of resale value), she chose The Way of Kings.

Stormlight bless her. You worldhoppers are just so bright.

Did you see the mer-matee? I'm obsessed.

The Wrap-Up

So ends my field report on day one. A Mistborn has been certified. B’Barbra’s budget outlook has improved. The booth team has answered 147 questions about worldhopping, 63 about leatherbound availability, and 3 about Hoid’s skincare routine (answer: unknowable).

If you’re attending C2E2, come find us. Do the quest. Get the pin. Talk with our team. Make a theory and defend it like a Shardblade is on the line.

And if you’re tuning in from elsewhere in the Cosmere, rest assured. The Cognitive Realm will keep reporting in, and the Bureau will find a way to bring you into the fold. Eventually. Whether you want them to or not.

Stay luminous. Stay licensed. And for the love of Harmony, hydrate.

Thank you for all your wonderful work, B'Barbra. I see you.

  • Loved my time in the booth! Everything about the booth was so thoughtfully done, from the squishy floor to save your feet, to the solidity of the booth itself with huge artworks. I felt like I left C2E2 entirely. The Elantris manuscript pages were very cool!

My favorite part though, was the staff. I had a warm, inviting interaction with three different people. You also engaged my grade school children like the humans they are. Dragonsteel is good for humanity.

  • If only we, my son and I, could attend but alas a bloody great ocean separates us. Love and stormlight from Australia.

  • Chatting with B’Barbra was a delight. As much as I wanted to take the journey, I had a portal to catch to take me home with a suitcase filled with signed leather bound books and secret works of art.
If only my travel pack could have fit the framed manuscript. Maybe there is a portal to send it to me ;)

    Fun blog post!
